3rd Tuesday Psycho
Remember that scene from the movie American Psycho? It’s the part where the wealthy New York businessmen are sitting around comparing their fabulous business cards [the joke is that they really all look the same].
I found myself in a similar situation while sitting at the ‘cool kids’ table at my first 3rd Tuesday function. I’m pretty sure you can read someone’s card the way you read their zodiac signs. Here are some of my personal faves from that night. I’ve included my own psycho psychic personality-interpretation.
You know how they call big guys tiny? Or the saying ‘underestimate and over deliver’? Well I’m sure both are true of this card’s owner, Collin Douma. The picture shows both front and back and is about the 1/3 the size of a regular business card. Seriously. I like to call it the Wee-card but I’m sure he wants us all to know it is the only ‘wee’ thing about him. I am, of course, talking about his sense of humor. What were YOU thinking?
Again, front and back; this one is regular size. Read the caption in the bubble. It actually should read “Let’s hear ME talk about it…” Micheal O’Connor Clarke was the MC of the networking event I went to and he really enjoyed it. Seriously though, when he talks you should listen. My first time meeting him and I think I learned more in one hour than I have learned one month of class. The man knows what he is talking about; my advice would be to listen.
I’m not sure if you can jam anymore info on this card. I was half expecting it to unfold with a map to his house or something. Paull “With 2 Ls” Young definitely wants you to be able to get a hold of him and it’s a good thing too. For someone of his tender age this man has a wide – and deep – breadth of knowledge into the PR world. He’s global too; he originates from wonderful Australia but has traveled all over on a PR tour. I call him the PR Gypsy.
Tuesday’s speaker, Mark Evans, said “Bloggers are egoists.” I don’t know if that is necessarily true. I mean, I only have my name on my card twice, one the centre and my logo is my initial…twice. Hmmm…you really think I’m an egoist? (no comments on this please). Well, I know one thing rings true, I believe in the K.I.S.S. method.
