I’m giving blood today; it will be my second time ever and I am really looking forward to it. I thought it might be a chore, having to go on my lunch hour and be poked and prodded but thinking about it makes me feel good and I could use some of that…y’know…feeling good.
Last time I went it the nurses were really friendly. I felt like I was going to visit ‘the girls’ and we sat around and chatted (mostly about men). And it wasn’t just one nurse, it was all the people I came across, volunteers included.

Of course the best part was the juice and cookies. They had my second favourite cookie there, Dad’s oatmeal (first is my mom’s shortbread).

I almost passed out the first time. Right after they took out the needle I broke into a cold sweat. They say that’s common for first timers but I guess we’ll see how I handle it today. Either way, I can’t wait.

i felt a little faint again and had to lay down with cold cloths on my head for about 10 min, right after they took the needle out. The nurses were super nice still so that makes it all okay.

No oatmeal cookies this time but they did have fudgeeos. Cupcakes sound pretty good too! I may have to put it on the suggestion card next time...lol

the best part about giving blood where i go is the cupcakes... well the rare blood in my veins is a bonus for some... but i'm there for the cupcakes.. and the dad's oatmeal cookies that the super friendly nurse let me take for the trip home!!!

    how did this time go?

yeah, i heard that they actually recommend that some people don't give because they have those issues. hopefully it isn't a recurring issue for me and was just first time jitters.

    thanks for the support!

  • Your enthusiasm is awesome. It's a great thing to give blood, I'd love to get back and do it but I had a couple bad experiences with it and the nurses didn't want to see me back. I did pass out so both times, and I mean full out fall off the chair pass out. They are good about it but I don't like it. Maybe I'll try again in the future but I'm going to wait a while. Hope you do OK there!
