Please help me out…what kind of bird is this?

I really want to find out what kind of bird this is becasue of a strong memory of my Dad. Can you help me?

I was fortunate enough to actually get the bird on film. It was the first time in many years that I saw it. Until then I had only ever heard the sound.

Also, I think I know which bird it is but I’d like to get more opinions before I commit to anything.

Does anyone know any bird experts? Contact Me or just leave a comment.

VERY SPECIAL THANKS to my friend, digitaltodd (follow him here on twitter) for helping me put this film together in such a professional way. I had tried to do it on my own but was having trouble putting it together in a way that I was happy with. He volunteered his skills and his time to make this video as special as it should be. He’s a sweatheart…and very talented!

  • I'm no expert and it's hard to tell from the video but I think it's a "Northern Cardinal"
  • Yup, Bill's right. That's the Northern Cardinal. I get them in my backyard all the time. What you filmed is the male. The female is alittle more brownish in colour than red.

    Definitely a cardinal!
Not sure if there is a subspecies.

    Cool, thanks so much guys!

I had a few people on Twitter agree also and one friend sent me this link - http://tinyurl.com/5y6dx9 - which looks almost identical to the one I took.

Now time to do some reading to learn more about this wonderful creature :)

That certainly is a cardinal! I live in MI, we used to see them all the time about 25ish years ago...much less frequently now though.
